Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is making headlines not just for her highly anticipated Netflix series and upcoming podcast, but also for a significant legal mistake. Meghan is accused of failing to sign a crucial document in her trademark application for “As Ever,” a blunder that has reportedly caused issues with U.S. patent rules.

Meghan’s Legal Misstep Amid Public Scrutiny

While her professional life gains momentum with new projects, including a lifestyle and cookery series, Meghan’s trademark troubles have raised eyebrows. Royal experts and the public have criticized her for mishandling trademark paperwork. Some have even mocked her show, suggesting it’s designed for those who “need a recipe to make an ice cube”.

But the real issue lies with the U.S. Trademark Office, which flagged her application for clarification. Richard Eden, a royal expert, wrote about the situation in his Daily Mail column, shedding light on the errors in Meghan’s filing process.

Trademark Office Flags Meghan’s Application

According to Eden, the Trademark Office has asked Meghan to clarify her application, specifically regarding certain items like “spoons serving jams and fruit preserves”. They have also demanded that she list all of her goods and services by their international class number.

Above all, the office stressed that she must sign the document, as her application cannot be considered valid without this step. “Without this signature, it will not be properly verified,” Eden explained.

A History of Trademark Troubles

This isn’t the first time Meghan has faced issues with trademark applications. She reportedly made similar mistakes when trying to trademark her former lifestyle blog, The Tig, as well as the name of her short-lived podcast, Archetypes, which was launched on Spotify.

Despite the growing controversy over her projects, Meghan Markle continues to push forward with her career. However, these legal setbacks serve as a reminder that even those with the most public platforms can face challenges in building a brand.

As Meghan works to resolve these trademark issues, it remains to be seen how they may impact her future ventures and whether she can overcome the obstacles hindering her progress.
