Meghan Markle is facing harsh criticism just days before the debut of her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder. The latest blow comes from Canadian journalist and former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, who has made sharp remarks about the Duchess of Sussex’s behavior and her relationship with facts and reality.

Carter, who was responsible for one of Meghan’s most notable Vanity Fair covers in 2017, recently discussed his experience working with the former actress in his new memoir, When the Going Was Good: An Editor’s Adventures During the Last Golden Age of Magazines. Reflecting on the decision to feature Meghan on the cover, Carter admitted that he had no idea who she was when one of his team suggested her. His initial question was, “Why should we do a story on her?” to which a colleague quickly responded, “Because she’s going to marry Prince Harry.”

Despite the excitement surrounding Meghan’s future marriage to the British royal, Carter revealed that Meghan wasn’t exactly thrilled with the interview process. In the interview, which eventually led to her cover story, Meghan reportedly snapped, “Excuse me, is this going to all be about Prince Harry? Because I thought we were going to be talking about my charities and my philanthropy.” This incident seemed to leave a lasting impression on Carter, who later remarked, “This woman is slightly adrift on the facts and reality.”
In addition to his comments about Meghan, Carter also reflected on the state of Prince Harry’s strained relationship with his brother, Prince William, and their father, King Charles. Having been close friends with Princess Diana, Carter expressed that she would have been deeply saddened by the current state of the royal family. He said, “Anytime someone comes between siblings that’s a disaster – horrible for a family.”
Meghan’s latest controversy comes just as she prepares to launch Confessions of a Female Founder on April 8th, in collaboration with Lemonada Media. The podcast aims to feature powerful stories of women who have achieved success in business. However, her previous projects, such as Archetypes, received a lukewarm reception, leading some to question how her new venture will fare.
Carter’s new memoir is set to release in the U.S. tomorrow and in the U.K. later this week, and in an interview with Page Six, he shared his thoughts on his career and reflections on celebrities like Tom Cruise, Harvey Weinstein, and, of course, Meghan Markle.
As the release of Meghan’s new podcast looms, the harsh words from Graydon Carter only add fuel to the ongoing criticism she faces, making her future endeavors even more closely scrutinized by the public.
