Pop icon Miley Cyrus recently revealed she endured a ruptured ovarian cyst while co-hosting her live New Year’s Eve special alongside her godmother, Dolly Parton. Speaking on The Zane Lowe Show on May 21, Miley shared how the medical emergency unfolded during the broadcast but insisted on continuing the show despite the severe pain.
“I had a pretty traumatic experience on a show that I was doing with [Lorne Michaels] when I was doing my New Year’s show,” Miley explained. “I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture. We didn’t know exactly what was going on so we did it.”
Ovarian cysts are common and usually harmless, but when they rupture, they can cause sudden, sharp pelvic pain and other serious symptoms, according to the Mayo Clinic. Miley’s determination to power through the pain and complete the live event highlights her resilience and professionalism.
“It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway,” Miley added. “But it was really really hard on me.”
By sharing her experience, Miley joins other celebrities like Hailey Bieber and Lena Dunham who have publicly discussed ovarian cysts, helping raise awareness about women’s health issues. Despite the intense discomfort, Miley’s story serves as a powerful reminder of strength and perseverance, inspiring fans to prioritize their health while facing challenges.
Her openness encourages important conversations about ovarian cysts and women’s wellness, all while keeping her signature glam and grit on stage.
