Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has shed light on her approach to managing her social media presence, revealing that her team plays a vital role in curating her online experience to shield her from negativity.
In a candid interview with Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), the 19-year-old actress, engaged to Jake Bongiovi, opened up about her perspective on social media and how her team actively filters out negative content from platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
While Brown expressed enjoyment in seeing people engage with her brand products on social media, she emphasized that her team takes a proactive role in ensuring her digital environment remains positive. “I personally feel it wasn’t adding anything to my life. And I felt positive when I didn’t have it on my phone,” she explained, sharing her reasons for distancing herself from excessive social media exposure.
The young actress added, “I just felt like I could live my life with more confidence and freedom, mental freedom [without social media].” Her sentiment echoed the growing trend of individuals recognizing the importance of taking breaks from the digital world for mental well-being.
While acknowledging the potential positive aspects of social media, Brown noted, “I just feel better for it. But that doesn’t mean that the good social media I don’t get to see.” She expressed gratitude for the support of her team in managing her digital engagement.
“I just have a wonderful team that kind of censors it all, so that I can protect myself,” she added, highlighting the collaborative effort to ensure her online experience remains uplifting.
Brown also shared insights into her approach to personal milestones, such as her upcoming wedding with Jake Bongiovi. She indicated her desire to keep such intimate moments private, away from the public gaze. She explained, “To have everyone’s opinions and eyes looking at that just feels unnatural to me,” underlining the importance of preserving special moments in their true essence.
In a previous interview with Allure magazine in 2022, Brown discussed her encounters with online harassment and bullying. She reflected on the challenge of facing hate when still in the process of self-discovery, remarking, “It’s really hard to be hated on when you don’t know who you are yet.”
However, Brown shared a powerful perspective on overcoming negativity. “Knowing that I’m worth everything and this person didn’t take anything from me, it felt very empowering,” she revealed, indicating her journey towards self-assuredness.
With her proactive stance toward social media and her focus on preserving personal moments, Millie Bobby Brown exemplifies a young celebrity taking control of her digital narrative and well-being in an age of heightened online exposure.
