On Monday, after Kuwait, Algeria banned the “Barbie” movie which had been displayed at several country’s cinemas for several weeks, an official source and the Algeria’s 24H Algerie news site.
The Algerian official source said the “Barbie” movie “promotes homosexuality and other Western deviances” and that it does not act in accordance with Algeria’s religious and cultural sentiments.
Barbie stars Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (Ken) and sends Mattel Inc doll on an adventure into the real world. The film has transcended $1 billion in box office ticket sales worldwide since its debut on July 21.
Kuwait, a country in the Arabian Peninsula, has also banned the “Barbie” movie for promoting homosexuality.
The Culture Ministry of Algeria oversees the contents of movies shown in cinemas and can prevent them from being shown.
