Todd Phillips, director of the 2019 hit film “Joker”, has announced the completion of production for the film’s highly anticipated sequel. “Joker: Folie à Deux” stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, and Phillips took to Instagram on Wednesday to share the news along with two new photos of the stars in their respective roles.
Throughout the production process, Phillips had been teasing fans with glimpses of the stars in makeup and costume. Phoenix will reprise his role as Arthur Fleck, the struggling comedian with severe mental health issues that he portrayed in the first film. Meanwhile, Gaga will take on the role of DC’s Harley Quinn, as confirmed by photographs taken on set during an outdoor scene last month.
Phillips expressed his gratitude to the cast and crew for their hard work, calling them the best in the film industry. He added that he will now retreat to the editing room to put the film together.
“Joker”, which was released in 2019, was a critical and commercial success, earning over $1 billion at the box office and winning Phoenix an Oscar for Best Actor. The film, which explored the origins of the iconic Batman villain, was praised for its gritty and realistic portrayal of mental illness.
The sequel, “Joker: Folie à Deux”, is set for release on October 4, 2024, and fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Phoenix as Arthur Fleck and the introduction of Gaga as Harley Quinn.
