Fans of the Twilight series will soon have a reason to rejoice as Lionsgate Television is currently in the initial phase of developing a TV adaptation of author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sinead Daly, known for her work on Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, and The Get Down, is serving as the writer on the script for the upcoming series.
While the TV adaptation is still in its infancy, sources told the outlet that Lionsgate TV and Daly are working to determine if the series will be a remake of Meyer’s books or a different offshoot. It is still unclear when the Twilight TV series will be taken out to potential buyers or which network or platform it will land on.
Despite the lack of information, sources claim that Meyer is expected to be involved in the television adaptation. Meanwhile, Wyck Godfrey and Erik Feig, who also bought the rights to the Twilight book series during his tenure at Summit Entertainment, are serving as the executive producers on the project.
Notably, the Twilight films recently moved to NBCUniversal’s Peacock after a stint on Netflix. In January 2022, Kristen Stewart, who played the lead opposite Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen in the film, spoke about a younger generation discovering Twilight on streaming services. She said, “It’s weird because it feels incredibly far away and also still not that far away from me and my time in this film. I don’t know, like, on one hand you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m old, my god, I did this five minutes ago, now it’s like 10-year anniversary.’ I’m like, wow, I have to go to my high school anniversary already.”
The Twilight book series, which was first published in 2005, follows the romantic relationship between a teenage girl, Bella Swan, and a vampire, Edward Cullen. It became a worldwide phenomenon and spawned a five-part movie series that grossed over $3.3 billion at the box office. With the upcoming TV adaptation, fans will once again have the opportunity to revisit the beloved characters and their enchanting world.
