Netflix has unveiled a glimpse into the highly anticipated sixth and final season of its award-winning series “The Crown.” In this upcoming season, viewers will be treated to a deep dive into the 2005 wedding of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker-Bowles.
The streaming service teased the pivotal storyline with a photo shared on Monday, showcasing the program for the royal wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
As the longest-reigning British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022, leading to Charles’s ascension to the throne as King Charles III. Camilla was granted the title of Queen Consort upon their marriage. Given their prior marriages, the couple opted for a small civil ceremony, which Queen Elizabeth did not attend due to her role as the head of the Church of England, which discouraged divorce. However, she did participate in the post-wedding reception.
The fifth season of “The Crown” concluded without depicting the tragic demise of Princess Diana, who died in a fatal car crash in France in 1997. Season 6 is expected to focus on the period following Diana’s death.
Regarding the show’s approach to covering Diana’s passing in the upcoming season, executive producer Suzanne Mackie stated that there were extensive, thoughtful discussions about how to approach it. She emphasized that the recreation was done with great care and sensitivity.
The timeframe of Season 6 also delves into the efforts of Charles and Camilla to gain public support for their relationship at a time when the country was still mourning the loss of “the people’s Princess.”
The ensemble cast of Season 6 features Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, and Dominic West as Charles. The final season of “The Crown” is slated to debut later this year, bringing an end to the acclaimed series.
