Nick Jonas has finally shed light on the emotional journey behind the Jonas Brothers’ shocking 2013 breakup — revealing that the decision stemmed from a need for individual growth and deeper family healing.
In a candid clip from the upcoming episode of Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals series, the youngest Jonas brother shared heartfelt reflections about why he and his siblings, Kevin and Joe, parted ways musically more than a decade ago.
A Break Fueled by Personal Growth
Nick explained that after years of nonstop touring and making music as a band, the brothers reached a crossroads where they wanted to explore solo careers.
“I can definitely see how I could have more lovingly communicated something that needed to be said,” Nick admitted, acknowledging how their communication could have been handled better at the time.
The split led to a six-year hiatus, during which each brother focused on personal projects, self-discovery, and, most importantly, rebuilding their relationship outside of the spotlight.
Reconnecting Beyond the Band
Nick, now a father to daughter Malti with global superstar Priyanka Chopra, shared that the time apart allowed the trio to reconnect as a family first, bandmates second.
“We had to certainly do some healing and have some tough conversations,” he said.
“We also just had to create new memories together. And better times that weren’t work-related — just us being family.”
Joe Jonas, who launched his own successful solo project DNCE in 2015, reflected on the emotional strain the brothers endured.
“We were having such a difficult time just being real with each other back then,” Joe said.
“Looking back now, it needed to happen.”
A Stronger Bond Today
Twelve years later, the Jonas Brothers are not only back as a chart-topping trio, but also enjoy a healthier, more open relationship.
Joe, 35, noted that they’ve grown emotionally and are no longer afraid of difficult conversations.
“We can communicate way better now, because we don’t need to be scared to have tough conversations.”
Kevin, the eldest brother at 37, also chimed in, explaining that while they aren’t always filter-free with each other, they’ve learned to rely on their bond in times of need.
“When there’s a true need, I think we always band together,” Kevin said. “We come to each other as we are brothers first.”
What’s Next for the Jonas Brothers?
Since their reunion in 2019, the Jonas Brothers have released new music, embarked on global tours, and shared their personal lives more openly with fans. Their story is one of resilience, transformation, and the power of brotherhood— proving that sometimes stepping away is the only way to truly come back stronger.
