The highly anticipated third season of Bridgerton is set to captivate audiences as Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton take on prominent roles, guided by insights from Simone Ashley, a star from the show’s second season.
At the New York City premiere on May 13, Simone Ashley, 29, revealed to PEOPLE that she played a supportive role for Coughlan and Newton, ensuring they felt supported and had a friend on set. “Me and Nicola would check in on each other. She is such an inspiration to me, and I learned so much from her, and there were times she was giving me advice. So, it was just what an amazing thing to have in your work environment,” Ashley shared.
Teasing the upcoming season’s intensity, Ashley hinted at the romance scale being “broken beyond 10, as many zeros as you can possibly imagine.”
Coughlan previously hinted at the season staying true to Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, particularly focusing on the book “Romancing Mister Bridgerton,” which is the fourth in the series. She expressed her excitement, stating, “I always look at the three seasons like this. I think season 1 was about passion, season 2 was about longing and season 3, I think it’s romance all the way. It’s just so romantic.”
In season 3, viewers will witness Penelope (Coughlan) facing new challenges after being exposed as Lady Whistledown to her best friend Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Colin’s younger sister. This development propels Penelope into a journey of self-discovery and exploration within the marriage market.
Coughlan also hinted at steamy scenes with Newton, recalling a funny incident where they accidentally broke furniture during a shoot. Despite the challenges, she found the filming process enjoyable, given their longstanding friendship.
The first part of Bridgerton season 3 is scheduled to premiere on May 16, with the second part following on June 13. Fans can catch up on previous seasons and the spinoff, “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” on Netflix, setting the stage for another captivating chapter in the Bridgerton saga.
