Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo shares insights into composing the soundtrack for “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”
During the prequel’s red carpet event at TCL Chinese Theater, the 20-year-old artist reflected on the creative process behind the track “Can’t Catch Me Now.” Expressing her excitement and nerves at the opportunity, Rodrigo, known for hits like “Traitor,” conveyed her immense admiration for “The Hunger Games” franchise and its iconic soundtracks.
“It’s truly an honor. I’m an immense admirer of The Hunger Games and its soundtracks, so when they approached me for this opportunity, I was filled with both excitement and nerves,” she revealed.
Recognizing the distinctive challenge presented by the project, Rodrigo conceded that crafting lyrics for the soundtrack marked a departure from her customary personal style. Typically delving into her own life with deeply personal and confessional songs, she characterized the experience as a “truly enjoyable challenge” and a chance for personal growth as a songwriter.
The singer-songwriter underscored the gratifying aspect of tailoring something specifically for the character Lucy Gray, portrayed by Rachel Zegler, in “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” Rodrigo conveyed a profound connection to Lucy Gray, labeling the creative process as “an incredibly rewarding experience.”
In tandem with her involvement in The Hunger Games project, Rodrigo is actively preparing for the tour of her second album, “Guts,” scheduled to commence in February 2024. Brimming with excitement, she shared, “We’re currently working on it! I won’t disclose too much, but I’m genuinely thrilled.”
