Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg is finally bringing his life story to the big screen with an official biopic now in active development. The legendary rapper, producer, and entrepreneur—born Calvin Broadus Jr.—will not only have his life portrayed in the film but will also serve as a producer on the project.
Although the film was first announced in 2022, production has now officially kicked off. At 53, Snoop says the timing is just right. In a statement, he shared, “I waited a long time to put this project together because I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy I’m trying to portray on screen, and the memory I’m trying to leave behind.”
Calling the creative collaboration a “holy matrimony,” the rapper emphasized how meaningful this project is to him and his career.

The biopic will chart Snoop Dogg’s journey from his early days in Long Beach, California, to his meteoric rise as one of the most influential artists in the hip-hop industry. Known for his distinctive style and genre-defining hits like “Gin and Juice”, “Drop It Like It’s Hot”, and “Young, Wild & Free”, the film promises to showcase key moments that shaped his personal life, musical career, and cultural impact.
Jonathan Daviss, known for his breakout role in Outer Banks, has been cast to portray the iconic rapper, according to Deadline. His casting marks a significant step forward in bringing Snoop’s dynamic persona to life on screen.
Produced by Snoop Dogg himself, along with Brian Grazer and Sara Ramaker (President of Death Row Pictures), the biopic will also feature a selection of Snoop’s biggest hits, adding a powerful soundtrack to the film’s narrative.
Fans of the West Coast legend can expect a film that celebrates Snoop Dogg’s enduring legacy, from street poet to global superstar, offering a cinematic tribute to one of music’s most iconic figures.
