Prince Harry has faced sharp criticism from former soldier Ben McBean, who accused the Duke of Sussex of enjoying an “elitist lifestyle” while publicly airing grievances about his family.
Ben McBean, a double amputee who lost an arm and a leg to a landmine in Afghanistan in 2008, shared his thoughts in an interview with The Daily Mail. McBean, who once shared a flight home with Prince Harry, voiced his disappointment with the Duke’s recent behavior, particularly regarding his strained relationship with his brother, Prince William.
Reflecting on Prince Harry’s revelations about a physical altercation with Prince William, McBean commented, “I just thought, with him kind of whinging about his family and he was saying something about his brother pushing him over or something like that, I was just like, ‘Mate, just leave it out.’”
McBean expressed disbelief over the public airing of such personal matters, adding, “You and your brother had a little fisticuffs…but family’s family, you know.”
He further compared Prince Harry’s actions to those of someone venting on social media about a breakup. “If one of my friends fell out with his partner and started posting things on social media and saying my ex is this and that, I’d have told him to shut up as well,” McBean stated.
The remarks highlight growing criticism of Prince Harry’s post-royal life, with some accusing him of capitalizing on his royal ties while distancing himself from the responsibilities they entail. McBean’s comments also underscore broader public sentiment questioning the Duke’s approach to handling private family matters in the public eye.
Prince Harry has not responded to McBean’s statements, but the critique adds to the ongoing debate surrounding the Duke’s actions and the scrutiny he continues to face since stepping back from royal duties.
