Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming Netflix project is already drawing attention—but not all of it is positive. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly developing a new drama centered on the elite polo scene in Wellington, Florida, through their production company, Archewell Productions.
However, a public relations expert has raised concerns about the direction of the show, warning that its core concept could risk alienating audiences.
Expert flags potential backlash
PR specialist Renae Smith has advised the couple to be cautious about how they position the series. According to her, trying to present polo—long associated with wealth and exclusivity—as something universally relatable may not resonate with viewers.

“The key is honesty,” she explained, noting that audiences are comfortable engaging with stories about privilege—as long as they are portrayed authentically.
She added that problems arise when content attempts to reframe something inherently elite as accessible to all.
The challenge of portraying polo
The upcoming drama is expected to explore the high-profile polo community, a world often linked to luxury, status, and exclusivity. While expanding the appeal of such a sport may seem like a compelling narrative angle, experts warn it could come across as disconnected from reality.
Smith emphasized that audiences don’t necessarily need relatability—they need authenticity and engaging storytelling. Attempting to “widen the scope” of polo without acknowledging its elite nature, she suggested, could feel out of touch.
Strategic questions raised
Beyond creative direction, the expert also questioned the broader strategy behind the project. She suggested that not every brand benefits from continuous content production and that timing plays a crucial role in maintaining relevance.
“If I were advising them,” she said, “I would be asking why continue in this space, and why now.”
What lies ahead
As anticipation builds around the Netflix drama, all eyes are on how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will approach the storytelling. Whether they lean into the exclusivity of the polo world or attempt to broaden its appeal could ultimately shape how the series is received.
For now, the project has sparked early debate—highlighting the delicate balance between aspiration, authenticity, and audience expectations in modern entertainment.
