Ryan Reynolds Expands Football Empire Amid Justin Baldoni’s $400M Lawsuit

Ryan Reynolds has made another significant move in the world of football, joining an investment group to acquire Club Deportivo La Equidad Seguros, a prominent Colombian soccer team. This development comes as the Deadpool star navigates legal challenges tied to a $400 million lawsuit filed against him and his wife, actress Blake Lively.

On January 16, it was reported that Reynolds, along with his Welcome to Wrexham co-star and business partner Rob McElhenney, is part of a high-profile group of investors taking over the top Colombian team. The group is led by real estate tycoon Al Tylis and soccer executive Sam Porter, who also have a stake in the Mexican soccer team Necaxa.

According to a press statement, the investment group is backed by a diverse roster of prominent figures, including actress Eva Longoria, MLB star Justin Verlander, model Kate Upton, former NBA player Shawn Marion, and author Scott Galloway.

“Al Tylis and Sam Porter not only have extensive experience in the sports world, but they also have the support of recognized figures such as Eva Longoria, Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds, Justin Verlander, Kate Upton, Shawn Marion, and Scott Galloway,” the statement revealed.

Reynolds and McElhenney first ventured into football in 2021 when they acquired Welsh team Wrexham AFC. Their ownership not only helped rejuvenate the club but also brought global attention through their hit FX docuseries Welcome to Wrexham. With their latest venture in Colombia, Reynolds and McElhenney continue to expand their influence in the sport.

The news of Reynolds’ investment comes on the same day he was named a defendant in a $400 million lawsuit filed by Justin Baldoni, Lively’s co-star and director in the upcoming film It Ends With Us. The lawsuit has intensified scrutiny on Reynolds and Lively, adding another layer of complexity to their professional lives.

While Reynolds has not publicly addressed the lawsuit or his latest investment, the timing highlights his ability to pursue ambitious business ventures amidst personal and legal challenges. Fans and critics alike are watching closely as the Hollywood star continues to make waves both on and off the pitch.
