Serena Williams has finally opened up about why she chose not to approach her long-time friend, Taylor Swift, at the 2025 Super Bowl. In a candid interview with Time Magazine, Williams shared her thoughts on the incident that took place after the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite their close friendship, the tennis legend and her husband were eager to meet Swift, who they hoped would sign an autograph for their daughter, Olympia. Williams humorously described herself as “such a mom,” revealing how excited she was to get the autograph. “I was ready to go in myself and be like, ‘Taylor, come get this girl,’” she said.
However, Williams quickly realized that it was not the right time to approach Swift, as she witnessed the pop superstar being booed by the crowd. Understanding the pressure of being in the spotlight during a team loss, Williams explained, “It’s hard when your team is losing. I totally get it.”

Despite her desire to meet Swift, Williams expressed disappointment over the crowd’s negative reaction toward the singer. “Why would you boo her? That’s so mean. That’s just awful,” she stated, showing her support for her friend.
Following the incident, Williams made a public show of support for Swift, urging her fans to ignore the boos. On social media, she posted a message to Swift, writing, “I love you @taylorswift13 don’t listen to those booo!!”
The exchange came after the Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9, 2025. Despite the emotional moment, Serena Williams’ unwavering support for Taylor Swift only strengthens their long-lasting friendship.
