Shakira is showing full support for Bad Bunny as he prepares to headline the 2026 Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, marking a major moment for Latin representation in mainstream entertainment.
Shakira Reflects on Her Own Super Bowl Experience
Six years after sharing the spotlight with Jennifer Lopez at Super Bowl LIV, where Bad Bunny made a surprise appearance during her set, Shakira told Variety that it’s finally his turn to shine.
“It’s about time,” Shakira said in an interview published on October 21. She reflected on how her own 2020 performance, which included portions in Spanish, was once seen as a bold move.

“I remember when we did ours that even having part of our set in Spanish was a bold move… Acceptance of Spanish-language music as part of the mainstream has come so far from when I started,” she added.
Shakira noted that the challenges her music faced in the English-speaking world helped pave the way for today’s Latin artists.
A Proud Moment for Latin Music
For Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, headlining the Super Bowl represents more than a career milestone. Shakira expressed pride in his achievement:
“I’m so proud to see him perform on the biggest stage in the world. He represents not only Latin culture but also how important Spanish-language music has become on a global scale and how universal it has become,” she said.
Shakira called the timing perfect, adding, “I can’t wait to watch it.”
Support From Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez, who co-headlined with Shakira in 2020, also voiced her encouragement. During a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, she advised fans to give Bad Bunny’s performance a chance:
“Don’t do that to yourself. That’s what I would say. I’m telling you, just give it a chance,” Lopez remarked.
Bad Bunny’s Statement
Bad Bunny shared the cultural significance of the moment in a statement:
“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history,” he said.
“Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”
With Shakira and J.Lo’s support, the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show is shaping up to be a landmark celebration of Latin culture and global music.
