Saturday Night Live’s beloved recurring sketch “Domingo” might be losing its spark — at least according to some fans. The latest installment, aired during the October 18 episode of SNL Season 51, has sparked mixed reactions across social media.
The episode, hosted by pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter, who also doubled as the musical guest, featured the fourth “Domingo” sketch with a musical twist. This time, the comedy segment parodied hit songs like Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia,” Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra,” and Alex Warren’s “Ordinary.”
While Carpenter joined the sketch as one of Kelsey’s (Chloe Fineman) friends, it was Marcello Hernández’s flirtatious character “Domingo” who once again took center stage. However, not all viewers were impressed.
Fans Show Mixed Reactions: “Retire It or Still Love It?”
On Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), fans were split over whether the recurring sketch has run its course.
“The first Domingo was cute, the second one was pushing it, now I’m tired,” one user commented. Another added, “Yeah, this was the worst Domingo sketch, sorry guys.”
A third fan suggested it might be time to wrap it up: “I think it’s safe to say it’s time to retire Domingo. It was fun while it lasted. This was just awful.”
Still, others remain loyal to the comedic chaos. “I’m sorry, this doesn’t get old for me — I love these skits,” one fan wrote, while another gushed, “Will never get tired of ‘Kelsey, I’m here!’”
Many praised the episode’s music parodies, with one user noting, “The ‘Fate of Ophelia’ and ‘Abracadabra’ remixes were so good.”
Some longtime viewers, however, missed the energy of past cast members, commenting, “It’s not the same without Heidi [Gardner] and Ego [Nwodim].”
A Viral Start, But Is the Trend Fading?
The “Domingo” sketches first debuted on October 12, 2024, in a segment titled “Bridesmaid Speech” featuring Ariana Grande. The sketch went viral, amassing over 20 million YouTube views.
The follow-up, “Babymoon” (November 16, 2024) with Charli XCX, saw a drop to 6.8 million views, while the SNL 50: The Anniversary Special in February 2025, featuring Bad Bunny, Pedro Pascal, and Carpenter, earned a strong 12 million views.
However, the most recent entry — “30th Birthday Party” — has so far reached 334,000 views on YouTube and is slowly climbing.
What’s Next for Domingo?
Despite the drop in numbers, the “Domingo” sketches remain a fan-favorite for many who appreciate Marcello Hernández’s comedic charm and SNL’s musical creativity. Whether the show decides to give the character a break or keep the tradition alive remains to be seen.
One thing’s for sure — Saturday Night Live continues to keep audiences talking, one viral sketch at a time.
