Snoop Dogg had an emotional moment on Monday, Nov. 18, during the Knockouts round of The Voice. The legendary rapper faced the challenging task of choosing which of his talented team members to send home, and it wasn’t an easy decision.
The three contestants—ChrisDeo, Mikaela Ayira, and Torre Blake—gave their all during their performances, leaving Snoop deeply moved. As they finished their sets, the 53-year-old coach grew visibly emotional, unable to hold back his tears.
“I didn’t think I was gonna get this emotional. I love these three girls. Ya’ll made me proud,” Snoop said, his voice quivering. “I’m so torn right now because I can’t take all of ya’ll with me. I’m hurt. And I’m supposed to be strong right now. I’m supposed to make ya’ll strong. But this is how you affected me. I love each and every one of you.”
Snoop compared the tough decision to sending his own daughters off to college, revealing how personal the moment felt. “It’s like sending my girls off to college. I’m gonna have to send two of them away, and one of them gets to stay home,” he shared.
Taking a deep breath and raising his arms, Snoop jokingly called on his “gangster holy ghost” for guidance. After an emotional pause, he shared his final decision with the contestants.
“Ladies, I love all three of you. I’m so honored to have been able to be your coach. You’ve given me something to roll with for the rest of my life, and I’ll never forget you,” Snoop said, before revealing that Mikaela Ayira would be moving forward in the competition.
In a one-on-one interview after the announcement, Snoop explained why he chose Mikaela. “Mikaela’s voice is big, and I don’t think she knows how to use it just yet. But with the right song, the right production, she could win this whole competition,” he said.
Monday’s episode also saw a surprising departure from the show. Mor Ilderton, a member of Team Gwen, was announced as leaving the competition, although the reasons behind his exit were not disclosed.
The Voice airs on NBC Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET and is available for streaming on Peacock the following day.
