Rachel Zegler has changed her tune regarding Disney’s 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. After previously criticizing the film as “weird” and “sexist,” the actress now expresses deep appreciation for portraying the beloved princess in the upcoming live-action remake.
During an appearance on Good Morning America, the 23-year-old actress reflected on the moment she was cast in the titular role, calling it “the honor of a lifetime.” She added, “I think every young person dreams about a phone call like that.”
Despite her past remarks about the original Snow White, Zegler now embraces her connection to the Disney legacy, calling herself a “huge Disney fan” and emphasizing how meaningful the project is to her. “To bring [Snow White] to life in such a unique and special way is a beautiful opportunity, and I’m very honored,” she said.
Film Faces Backlash and Speculation of On-Set Tension
Zegler’s comments come as the $270 million remake faces mounting criticism for its modernized approach to the beloved fairy tale. Some audiences have taken issue with the film’s attempt to introduce contemporary themes, leading to accusations of it being overly “woke.” Additionally, Disney’s decision to scale back the film’s press tour has fueled speculation of a behind-the-scenes rift between Zegler and co-star Gal Gadot.

Addressing the film’s updated take on the classic story, Zegler explained, “It’s all about bridging a classic to a modern age and bringing it to these beautiful young people… [Snow White’s] superpower remains her heart, which has always been the core of this story.”
Zegler’s Past Criticism Resurfaces
Zegler’s recent enthusiasm for the project contrasts with her previous statements about the original Snow White. The actress had previously dismissed the 1937 film as “extremely dated” and criticized its central romance, stating, “There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird.”
She also expressed reluctance to perform Some Day My Prince Will Come, saying, “We didn’t do that this time. I was scared of the original version.”
Feud Rumors Continue
In addition to the controversy surrounding the film’s creative direction, rumors persist regarding tension between Zegler and Gadot. Sources claim the two actresses have “nothing in common” due to their age difference and contrasting political views. While neither star has directly addressed these claims, the limited promotional efforts for the film have only added to speculation.
As Disney moves forward with its live-action adaptation, Zegler’s evolving stance on Snow White and the film’s reception remain hot topics. Whether audiences will embrace the reimagined version of the classic fairy tale remains to be seen.
