David Corenswet, the actor stepping into the iconic role of Superman, has finally addressed the mixed reactions to his flying scenes in the latest DC movie. Since the first footage was released, fans and critics alike have debated his pose and facial expressions during the much-anticipated flying sequences.
The 31-year-old actor admitted that portraying Superman in flight is a unique challenge. Speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Corenswet explained,
“There is no good way to do it, and it is very easy to look silly.”
He elaborated,
“If you look too calm and cool, then it doesn’t look like you’re flying. And it’s very easy to look very silly.”
Behind the Camera: Director James Gunn’s Cinematic Choices
Corenswet also shed light on some of the filmmaking techniques that contribute to the look of the flying scenes. He noted that director James Gunn and cinematographer Henry Braham tend to use wide-angle lenses placed very close to the actors’ faces, which can create awkward visuals.
“I don’t want to throw anybody under the bus but James and his cinematographer do have this habit of putting very wide lenses on the camera and then getting three inches from your face, which isn’t the most flattering angle,” Corenswet joked.
However, he quickly added a positive note about the final effect:
“But I’ll tell you what, on the big screen, it really makes you feel like you’re right there with us.”
Exciting Cast and Expectations for the New Superman
David Corenswet’s Superman is part of a fresh wave of DC characters brought to life by director James Gunn. The movie also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and Milly Alcock in key roles, adding to the buzz surrounding the film’s release.
