Fans of the Barbie blockbuster are buzzing after Sydney Sweeney made a comment that has reignited speculation about a potential sequel to the 2023 hit film. The Euphoria star’s recent remarks have left many wondering if Barbie 2 is officially on the horizon.
Despite widespread rumors swirling online that Warner Bros. is considering a sequel following the massive success of the first film, neither lead actress Margot Robbie nor director Greta Gerwig have confirmed plans for a second installment. While the original Barbie movie grossed over $1.44 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2023, Gerwig has expressed hesitation about making another film.

However, Sweeney’s recent interview with Bustle may hint that a sequel could be in development. When asked if she would be interested in playing Barbie’s sister in a future Barbie film, the 27-year-old actress said she would need to read the script first. Still, she was clear that she wouldn’t be opposed to the idea.

“I’d have to read a script, but I’m a huge, huge fan of Margot Robbie, so I would not be opposed to it,” said Sydney Sweeney, who stars in Anyone but You.
The original Barbie film featured a star-studded cast including Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, and Simu Liu, among others. Its blend of fantasy and comedy captivated audiences worldwide, cementing its place as one of Warner Bros.’ biggest successes.
With Sydney Sweeney’s openness to joining a sequel and the first film’s enormous box office numbers, fans remain hopeful that Barbie 2 may soon become a reality.
