Taylor Swift’s latest concert film, “Taylor Swift: Eras Tour,” has made history with a stunning weekend box office performance, amassing a remarkable $95 million to $97 million in North America. This achievement firmly positions the film as the highest-grossing concert film in the region to date.
In a notable feat, “Eras Tour” not only delivered one of the most substantial October openings in cinematic history but also secured its place as the seventh-largest opening of 2023.
The concert film provides viewers with an immersive experience, offering a glimpse into Swift’s sold-out tour of the same name, featuring songs from all nine of her studio albums. The film’s allure extends not only to her dedicated fan base but also to music enthusiasts looking for a captivating cinematic journey.
While the film received widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics, it narrowly missed the $100 million domestic mark, primarily due to limited walk-up business. Nevertheless, its popularity remains undeniable.
Audiences bestowed “Eras Tour” with an impressive A+ CinemaScore, signaling their unequivocal approval. Critics, albeit in smaller numbers than usual, granted the film a rare 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, highlighting its universal appeal.
The film’s commercial success once again underscores the significant influence of female moviegoers, with an astonishing 82 percent of “Eras” ticket purchasers being female. This trend echoes the prevailing power of female audiences observed during the release of the summer blockbuster “Barbie.”
Breaking down the demographics, 63 percent of ticket buyers fell within the 18-34 age range, with the largest subgroup represented by those aged 25 to 34, constituting 32 percent of the audience. Teenagers turned out in force as expected, accounting for 17 percent of ticket sales, showcasing the film’s broad appeal across age groups.
Reflecting on this monumental achievement, AMC’s Executive VP of Worldwide Programming and Chief Content Officer expressed gratitude to Taylor Swift for making “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” accessible to a global audience in movie theaters. He emphasized the film’s ability to captivate fans, who joyfully dressed up and danced their way through this cinematic celebration of music and artistry.
