Taylor Swift’s Lover (Live from Paris) Reissue Falls Short of Number One Spot on Billboard 200

Taylor Swift’s reissued album Lover (Live from Paris) had fans buzzing when it dropped on January 7th. Available exclusively on vinyl and for digital download, the album quickly sold out, with Swifties hoping it would top the Billboard 200 chart. Despite the excitement, the number one spot was ultimately claimed by Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, whose latest album Debí Tirar Más Fotos took the crown.

Released on January 5, 2025, Debí Tirar Más Fotos is Bad Bunny’s sixth studio album, and it marks the fourth time one of his albums has hit the number one position on the Billboard 200. The album edged out Swift’s reissue by just 1,000 units, a narrow margin that had fans predicting a different outcome.

In the tracking week that ended January 16th, Bad Bunny’s album earned 203,500 units, while Lover (Live from Paris) re-entered the chart with 202,500 units sold. Swift’s album benefitted significantly from its vinyl reissue, which sold 161,000 copies in the first week. However, it wasn’t enough to secure the top spot, as Bad Bunny’s album saw a major surge thanks to an impressive 264 million streams during its first full week of streaming activity.

Despite narrowly missing out on number one, Swift’s Lover (Live from Paris) still performed well, highlighting the continued enthusiasm for her music. The rest of the top 10 on the Billboard 200 featured other fresh releases, including SZA’s SOS, Kendrick Lamar’s GNX, Lil Baby’s Wham, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time, and Gracie Abrams’ The Secret of Us.

While Bad Bunny secured the top spot this week, Taylor Swift’s reissue proved that her fanbase is still as dedicated as ever, making for an exciting competition at the top of the charts.
