Timothee Chalamet recently shared amusing details about a missed opportunity for a Barbie cameo in the upcoming film “Wonka” during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The 27-year-old actor, known for his roles in Lady Bird and Little Women, is set to star in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie.
Chalamet disclosed that the cameo was initially proposed for him and his co-star Saoirse Ronan, with whom he has previously collaborated. He humorously suggested, “There was an idea for Saoirse Ronan and I to do a cameo in it. I don’t know what the cameo would have been. I think it would have been one of the rejected Kens or Barbies. Not Allan, but something. Maybe there was a rejected French one.”
Initially considering it merely an “idea,” Chalamet realized the potential cameo’s reality when he met with Gerwig to discuss the role. He expressed his surprise, stating, “I did because when I finished Wonka, the Barbie set had been built, so it was kind of going from fantastical London, chocolate.” He also marveled at the fantasy-comedy’s pink set, describing it as “insane and amazing.”
As “Wonka” hits theaters on December 15, Chalamet hinted at the potential for a sequel, saying, “There is a story to be told. And evidently there is,” during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. The actor’s revelation adds an intriguing element to the anticipation surrounding the film’s release.
