Robert Downey Jr. is set to appear in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster, Avengers: Doomsday, but not as the beloved Tony Stark/Iron Man. Instead, the 60-year-old actor will take on the role of the iconic antagonist Doctor Doom, starring opposite MCU heroes like Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ryan Reynolds, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan.
Filming Challenges in London
Filming for the highly anticipated action sci-fi movie, directed by the Russo brothers, has officially begun on the outskirts of London. However, insiders reveal that the initial shoot faced unexpected hurdles due to Downey’s involvement.
According to Jeff Sneider and John Rocha on The Hot Mic Podcast, Robert Downey Jr. was not physically presentduring the first days of filming. Instead, a body double stood in for him while he contributed his voice from off-set.
Downey Requests Reshoots
Despite this workaround, Downey was reportedly unsatisfied with the initial results. He requested the filmmakers reshoot the first three weeks of scenes so he could appear in the actual Doctor Doom costume.

Jeff Sneider explained, “Eventually Downey realized the situation was not working, and requested to reshoot the entire three weeks of scenes, with him in the actual Doctor Doom costume.”
He added that there were moments when Downey was present on set to read lines, but not actively participating in filming, which ultimately led to the decision for full reshoots.
