Ben Stokes, the Captain of England’s test cricket team, will likely come out of the One Day International (ODI) retirement ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2023. A left-handed batsman could be in England’s ODI jersey as the defending champion defends its World Cup title in India later this year.
The decision of Stokes to revoke his ODI career could also suggest that he could miss the Indian Premier League (IPL) next season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Ben Stokes, England’s all-rounder may take his ODI retirement to back England’s team to win the cricket World Cup in India, as per the Telegraph’s report.
If Jos Buttler presented the England jersey to Stokes then he may accept the English captain’s proposal, the report added.
In particular, Stokes has to experience knee surgery, but there is no fixed appointment for it, however, he would expect to undergo knee surgery when his team will not in action. In this case, the World Cup 2023 would be the perfect time, as he has already bid farewell to the ODI format.
If Stokes comes back from retirement then he has to postpone his knee surgery.
England’s cricket team will begin their ICC World Cup campaign on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
