West Indies T20I captain Rovman Powell is urging Sunil Narine to come out of retirement for the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean this year.
Sunil Narine retired from international cricket in November 2023, having last played for West Indies in August 2019.
Powell has been persistently trying to persuade Narine for the past year, even seeking help from other players like Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, and Nicholas Pooran.
“For the last 12 months, I’ve been whispering in his [Narine’] ears, but he’s blocked out everyone,” Powell was quoted as saying by Espn Cricinfo.
“I’ve asked [Kieron] Pollard, [Dwayne] Bravo, [Nicholas] Pooran. Hopefully, before they select the team, they can crack his code.”
Narine’s impressive century in a recent match for Kolkata Knight Riders adds to the pressure.
When asked about returning to international cricket, Narine remained non-committal, saying, “Let’s see what the future holds.”
Despite his remarkable batting performance in the IPL, Narine’s T20I career batting stats are modest, with 155 runs in 51 matches at an average of 10.33.
