Kate Middleton expressed her deep gratitude to those who have supported her and Prince William throughout her cancer journey, as she announced she is now in remission and focused on her recovery.
In a personal social media message on January 14, the Princess of Wales thanked those who quietly walked alongside her and her husband as they navigated her battle with cancer. “My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything,” she wrote. “We couldn’t have asked for more.”
This announcement comes after a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she confirmed her remission following treatment that began in February 2024. Kate had previously shared in September 2024 that she had completed chemotherapy.
During her visit to the hospital, Kate also revealed that she and Prince William have become joint patrons of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, a role she’s passionate about. “In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer,” she said.
Kate emphasized that her treatment had been exceptional and expressed her hope for the future. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she added. “I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.”
Her journey began with a planned abdominal surgery in January 2024, which was followed by a public cancer diagnosis in March of that year. Kate shared that, although she had completed treatment, there are still long-term side effects that require time and support for both patients and their families.
Speaking about her own experience, she said, “You think treatment’s finished, crack on with that … daily tasks, but that’s still like a real challenge. And talking… the words totally disappear… understanding that as a patient, yes there are side effects around treatment, but actually there are more long-term side effects.”
Kate also spoke about the importance of ongoing care, particularly for family members who are just as impacted. “I feel like it’s sometimes for the loved ones around us. They need support just as much as I did as the patient,” she noted.
A family friend shared that the Princess is wisely prioritizing her health, taking it one step at a time. Meanwhile, Prince William honored Kate on her 43rd birthday, praising her incredible strength and expressing how proud he is of her.
Kate’s January 14 visit marks the beginning of her gradual return to royal duties, with a focus on her health and supporting others who are facing similar challenges. The Princess remains committed to using her platform to raise awareness and support those affected by cancer.
