A recently released book, “The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy” by royal biographer Robert Hardman, offers new insights into why Kate Middleton chose not to accompany Prince William to Scotland on the day Queen Elizabeth passed away.
In an excerpt published in the Daily Mail, the author reveals that on September 8, 2022, as the royal family hurried to be by the Queen’s side at Balmoral due to concerns about her health, Kate made the heartfelt decision to stay home in Windsor with the couple’s children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
The reason behind this decision, as outlined in the book, was that it marked the beginning of a new term at a new school for the three siblings. Kate, as a caring mother, believed that one parent should be present with the children on this significant day.
Contrary to previous reports suggesting Meghan Markle was also requested to stay behind, the book clarifies that Kate independently made the decision herself. A royal aide mentioned in the book, “It was by luck rather than judgment, but it made it a lot easier to tell Harry he was coming alone.”
Prince Harry, residing in California with Meghan Markle, was in the U.K. for a scheduled charity event when he received the call about the Queen’s deteriorating health. Despite an attempt to reach him, he was already airborne, and the news of Queen Elizabeth’s death broke publicly while he was in the air.
