King Charles, known as a devoted dog lover, reportedly has a strong dislike for cats, according to royal author Brian Hoey in his book Pets By Royal Appointment.

The King, who owns two dogs with his wife, Queen Camilla, allegedly developed this aversion after receiving a kitten as a gift from Princess Margaret during his childhood.
“Princess Margaret gave him a kitten as a present when he was a child and he disliked it on sight,” Hoey wrote.
“Since then, he has developed an aversion to everything feline and says he cannot even stand having one in the same room.”
It is also noted that King Charles has a remarkable ability to detect if a cat lives in a house, even when the animal is not present.
Royal Duties and US Visit
This personal preference comes as King Charles prepares for a trip to America later this month. Speaking on the upcoming state visit, royal expert Jennie Bond told the Mirror:
“This is part of the normal formal wording of a State Visit, however it does pertinently underline the fact that the King is doing the Government’s bidding.
The Prime Minister has decided to deploy the soft power of the monarchy in the increasingly strained relations between the UK and the United States.”
While King Charles’s love for dogs is well-documented, his aversion to cats adds an intriguing personal detail ahead of his high-profile diplomatic engagements.
