Prince Harry has revealed an unusual source of tension with Prince William and Kate Middleton in his memoir Spare: Easter presents.
In an excerpt from the book, Harry admitted he was taken aback when he discovered that William and Kate were upset that he and Meghan hadn’t given them Easter gifts. “Easter presents? Was that a thing?” he recalled thinking, noting that he and William had never exchanged Easter presents, despite their father making a big deal of the holiday.
Ultimately, Harry said he and William apologized, acknowledging their siblings’ feelings: “Still, if Willy and Kate were upset, we apologized,” he wrote.

The Easter gift disagreement is just one example of the ongoing strain between the brothers, which many analysts say stems from Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from the UK with their son Prince Archie, and the interviews, docuseries, and public statements that followed. These included high-profile appearances such as the chat with Oprah Winfrey, the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, Harry’s interview with 60 Minutes, and coverage by CBS Sunday Morning, among others.
The memoir excerpt gives readers a rare glimpse into the personal dynamics of the royal family, highlighting how even small misunderstandings — like Easter gifts — can reflect deeper tensions within the household.
