Prince Harry’s recent choice to stay in a hotel rather than at a royal residence has sparked curiosity, and a former butler, Grant Harrold, who served King Charles for over seven years, shed light on the reasons behind this decision.
In an interview with The Post, Harrold expressed his surprise, stating, “It’s strange he’s not staying at any royal residences because obviously when they were growing up, they had rooms at Clarence House and at Highgrove.” He highlighted that traditionally, royal family members have accommodations at various royal residences.
Harrold speculated, “Maybe he felt that it was only fair to show that he, I’m guessing, is happy to support himself by staying in a hotel.” This decision, in Harrold’s view, reflects Prince Harry’s maturity and independence, indicating that he is now financially self-sufficient.
However, Harrold also raised concerns about the security aspect of this choice. He pointed out that if Prince Harry were staying in one of the royal residences, security measures would already be in place. On the other hand, opting for a hotel would require Prince Harry to arrange for his own security team.
The decision to stay in a hotel, while symbolizing financial independence, introduces logistical challenges, particularly in terms of security arrangements. Prince Harry’s choice reflects his evolving role within the royal family and his commitment to establishing a degree of self-sufficiency.
