On Saturday, Spain’s football federation said that it would take legal action to support its president, Luis Rubiales, even as he encounters a lot of criticism for holding star player Jenni Hermoso’s head and kissing her on the lips after their victory in the Women’s World Cup.
The federation said in a statement that it would reveal there have been falsehoods about what occurred by Hermoso or people speaking for her. The statement said that it would take legal action to support Rubiales’ honor.
On Friday, Rubiales denied quitting as the chief of RFEF over his acts last Sunday in Sydney, aiming to support his behavior and naming the kiss “spontaneous, mutual, euphoric and consensual.” he added that
I didn’t agree to the kiss and felt helpless and the victim of aggression, Jenni Hermoso said.
She has won the backing of the government, which while it cannot remove Rubiales has extremely condemned his acts and is pushing to get him suspended using a lawful process before a sports judiciary.
In a joint statement, the Spanish women’s team said that all 23 of the winning squad including Hermoso would not take part in any international game while Rubiales stayed head of the federation.
Hermoso declined Rubiales’ argument that the kiss he offered her was consensual.
Yolanda Diaz, an Acting Labor Minister said that the government must act and take critical steps.
Rubiales’ statements and the supporting response he got from many in the audience at the federation meeting on Friday were disliked on social media.
The losing England national team said that we all stand with you.
