Alexander Zverev, a German tennis player revealed Thursday that he supposes he can compete again with the best in the world and be at the same level before beginning his participation in Indian Wells (United States), an ATP 1000 tournament played in the hard court.

I feel I can compete again with the best players in the world and be at the same level.”

Zverev told dpa after a training session for the U.S. tournament.

Zverev hoped to uncover his best tennis in this edition of Indian Wells, after his injury at the last Roland Garros, when in the semifinals against Rafa Nadal he suffered a sprained ankle.

Since then, the German has only been able to string together two wins at the recent Dubai tournament, where he lost in the semifinals to Russian Andrey Rublev. “That was very important. I hope it will be even better here,” he stressed.

“I feel good. I also felt good in Dubai and I hope that gets better every week,” he said before his first second-round clash at Indian Wells against Argentina’s Pedro Cachin, with the 2021 quarterfinals as his best result on the U.S. court.

And is that the German acknowledged that Indian Wells was never a week where I got very far. “I have to play one or two matches, then I can respond. I want to start winning tournaments again at some point, that’s pretty clear,” Zverev stressed.
