February 2022
On 24 February 2022, Putin ordered tens of thousands of Russian troops into Ukraine from the north, east, and south. Hoping for a quick victory, Russian forces move on to Ukraine’s capital Kyiv but are at last forced to giveaway.
March 2022
In the early days of Russia’s invasion, unofficially at least 440 Ukrainian were killed. UN investigators later say some of the killings, most infamous in the Kyiv countryside of Bucha, may amount to war crimes.
April 2022
Russian missile strike on the train station in Kramatorsk, where dozen of people were killed. The station was jam-packed with women children and aged people who were attempting to flee to a safe place.

May 2022
Neighbor countries Finland and Sweden formally apply to join NATO, in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
This is a historic moment which we must seize.”

Russia seized Mariupol’s Black Sea port.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy delivered an address on the opening morning of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos. He called on countries to help set up a fund to rebuild his country.
June 2022
Russian missiles hit a shopping mall that was fully packed with different ages of people and killed at least 16 people. The United Nations spokesman condemns the attack of Russia on a shopping mall in the city of Kremenchuk, calling the attacking offensive. The World Bank approves the aid of $1.49 billion in additional financing to help pay the wages of public sector workers.
July 2022
Russian troops seized another city, the city of Lysychansk, and completed the conquest of the Luhansk province in Eastern Ukraine.
Gazprom, the energy giant of Russia said it will split gas supplies to Europe through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. While before Russia’s invasion, the whole of Europe imported more than 40% of its gas from Russia.
August 2022
Ukraine troops fought back, as they launched a southern counter-offensive around Kherson. They targeted Russian supply lines, ammunition dumps, and an air base in Crimea.
Antonio Guterres, the UN General Secretary said the risk of nuclear conflict had returned after decades. He called the Russian shelling of the Zaporizhzhia facility in Ukraine “suicidal”.
September 2022
After Russia’s announcement of its main gas supply pipelines to Europe will remain closed indefinitely, the gas price in Europe spiked by 30%. Ukraine counter-attacked in the Kharkiv region. A key rail hub that supplied the Russian frontline, was recaptured.
October 2022
The only bridge that linked Russia to the Crimean peninsula, was damaged by an explosion. After a few days, Russia counter-attacked with the first missile strikes on Kyiv in months.
After a few days, Ukrainian energy infrastructure is targeted in missile strikes. UNICEF reported about four million children have been plunged into poverty because of the war.
November 2022
Putin ordered the Russian forces to leave Kherson. Putin said about Kherson, it would always remain part of Russia. The EU looked at ways, so it could increase support for the energy sector in Ukraine which was attacked by Russian missiles, causing across-the-board power cuts.
December 2022
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy addressed the US Congress on his first foreign visit since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He said support for Ukraine is an investment in democracy.
While Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia is ready to negotiate over Ukraine. However, Kyiv officials said Moscow isn’t serious about talks and said Ukraine will not rest until every Russian soldier will be removed from its territory.
January 2023
Russia captured its first success, as Russian troops seized the salt-mining town of Soledar in eastern Donetsk province.
The world overcame apartheid, the pandemic, the financial crisis … Now the world is fighting Putin. The world will overcome again.”
President Zelenskyy told the World leaders during a live address to the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos.
February 2023
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said the Russian conflict in the east and south is part of a strategy to make gains before Kyiv receives tanks and other heavy weaponry from its allies.
NATO also begins discussing its request for fighter jets and long-range missiles. Western countries look at setting new sanctions against Russia to tie in with the first anniversary of the war.
