The Asia Cup 2023 is experiencing an important change in its schedule as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is set to shift six Super 4 matches from their initially scheduled location in Colombo to Hambantota. The following decision arises from the uncertainty of a comprehensive period of rain in Colombo during the scheduled competition dates.
The ACC is expected to announce this decision shortly after closely observing weather forecasts, which indicated a high chance of rainfall troubles in Colombo. Among these shifted matches is the highly anticipated match between Pakistan and India, which will now be scheduled in Hambantota on September 10.
Furthermore, in acknowledgment of the unexpected weather conditions, there is consideration for a reserve day for the Pakistan-India clash. This precautionary step is particularly authenticated since their group-stage Pakistan-India clash was called off without a single ball being bowled in the second innings.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had earlier expressed worries about the weather-related challenges in Colombo to the ACC. The ACC, in response, has ensured appropriate coordination and handled these problems to the best of its ability.
It’s worth mentioning that this decision comes amidst criticism produced at the ACC for organizing Asia Cup matches in Sri Lanka during a period known for its consistent rain.
Super 4 matches to be relocated are as follows:
September 9 – B1 vs B2
September 10 – Pakistan vs India
September 12 – India vs B1
September 14 – Pakistan vs B1
September 15 – India vs B2
September 17 – Final
