But some players can’t able to make their spot in their respective country’s squad. Some players faced injury while some can’t assure their respective team’s selectors.

Here are four players who couldn’t make their spot in the World Cup 2023.

Marnus Labuschagne

A middle-order batsman of Australia, Marnus Labuschagne, has been acknowledged for Kangaroos in Test cricket with scoring over 3,000 runs at an average of over 60 since his debut in 2018.

Labuschagne has also played 13 ODIs with an average of over 39, he scored 473 runs. However, he is yet to play sensational innings to prove his mettle in ODIs and that’s why Australia dropped him from the squad.

George Bailey, the Chief Selector of Australia quoted the same opinion and said that they haven’t witnessed much of Labuschagne’s sensational innings in the 50-over format.

Shan Masood

A left-handed batsman, Shan Masood, was assigned as the vice-captain of the ODI team in January 2023, but he had not fulfilled the expectations of Pakistan’s cricket management.

Masood hasn’t been included in Pakistan’s cricket squad for the upcoming Asia Cup and the series against Afghanistan. He has played with an average of 18.11 in 9 ODIs with just one half-century.

Inzamam-Ul-Haq, the Chief Selector of Pakistan cricket clarified the reason behind Masood’s drop and said that the left-handed batsman’s performance in ODIs has gone down.

Shikhar Dhawan

The left-handed opener, Shikhar Dhawan, has been a top-scorer for India in ODIs for the last decade. He scored 6,000 runs in ODIs featuring in three World Cups scoring two centuries and five half-centuries.

Dhawan has been out of form since 2022. He last played his international match in December 2022 and since then, he is ignore by Chief selectors. Many fans were expecting him to lead the Indian team in Asian Games but after selecting Ruturaj Gaikwad as captain, it is clear that BCCI has not shown interest in him.

Alex Hales

The right-handed opener, Alex Hales, played a crucial part in the 2015 ODI World Cup under Eoin Morgan’s captaincy. He also played a significant role in winning the 2022 T20 World Cup.

In 2019, Hales was involved in a controversial incident involving recreational drugs, which led to his barring from the team and a collapse of trust with his teammates.

Recently, Hales announced his retirement from international cricket, and will focus on domestic and franchise cricket, and will not seen in the England jersey in the upcoming 2023 World Cup.
