On Wednesday, the campaign of Donald Trump said that it raised over $45.5 million in the third quarter from July to September, almost 30 percent higher than it raised in the last quarter while the former United States president faces numerous legal charges.
The acceleration in fundraising could be an indication that Trump’s 2024 campaign coffers are aiding his lawful issues, which include four indictments.
Wednesday’s statement about Trump’s campaign did not provide details of how it reached that tally or its separation from where the funds were raised.
The Trump campaign said it had around $37.5 million cash on hand and that nearly $36 million of it was designated for the primary.
The former US president is the frontrunner in the race for the Republican presidential nomination for the November 2024 election.
His closest competitor, who trails him by a major margin in opinion polls, is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
The DeSantis campaign reported on Wednesday raising $15 million during the third quarter, although not all of those funds will be available for use during the Republican primary. It was a lower take than the $20 million in the second quarter, a potential indication that donors are souring on DeSantis as he has failed to dent Trump’s commanding lead.
Trump encounters four criminal indictments over his tries to overturn Democrat Joe Biden’s 2020 election win, his handling of classified documents after he left the White House, and hush money paid to an adult star. Trump has declined misconduct and pleaded not guilty in all of the cases.
He also faces a January civil damages trial for defaming a writer who blamed him for rape, which he refuses.
The main fundraising committee of Trump raised more than $35 million during the April-June period, almost twice what the group collected in the last three months.
