Elon Musk slammed US Vice President Kamala Harris on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, accusing her of “lying” about former President Donald Trump’s views on abortion, NY Post reported.
He praised the social media platform’s “community notes” feature on Monday, saying it helps hold politicians accountable when they spread false information about their opponents.
On Sunday, Harris posted on her X account that Trump “would ban abortion nationwide.” The vice president promised that she and President Biden will do “everything” they can to stop him and restore women’s reproductive freedom.
Her post was then flagged by a community note stating that “President Trump has repeatedly said he will not sign a national abortion ban.”
“When will politicians, or at least the intern who runs their account, learn that lying on this platform doesn’t work anymore?” Musk responded with his own post.
Users shared information from sources like CNN, BBC, The Associated Press, The New York Times, and Trump’s own Truth Social account, contradicting Harris’ claim.
According to Fox News, Donald Trump has stated that abortion limits should be decided by the states. Trump recently posted a video on Truth Social explaining his position.
“My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both. And whatever they decide must be the law of the land — in this case, the law of the state,” Trump said.
The AP report used to fact-check Harris was bluntly headlined, “Trump declines to endorse a national abortion ban. He says limits should be left to the states.”
During CNN’s Presidential Debate last week, Trump was asked about his stance on abortion and whether he would block abortion medication for women.
Trump applauded the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, returning the decision on abortion access to the states. The landmark Dobbs decision did not make abortion illegal nationwide. But rather determined that abortion is not a right guaranteed by the Constitution.
