Tragedy struck the city of Farmington, New Mexico, as a shooting incident resulted in the loss of several lives and left others injured. As a precautionary measure, nearby schools immediately implemented lockdown procedures to ensure the safety of the community.
The Farmington police department took to Facebook to provide an update on the situation, revealing that the shooting had claimed the lives of at least three individuals. The suspect responsible for the tragedy was confronted and subsequently killed at the scene. However, two officers, one from the city police and another from the New Mexico State Police, were also shot during the incident. The officers were transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center and were reported to be in stable condition.
At present, the identity of the suspect remains unknown, and the police have stated that there are no other apparent threats. The response to the shooting has involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the city, San Juan County, and state police.
Megan Mitchell, an official at the San Juan County Sheriff’s office, provided limited information on the incident due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. However, she confirmed that the shooting is being treated as an ongoing investigation.
The Farmington Municipal School District also took to Facebook to inform the community that several schools, including Apache and McKinley elementary schools, Central Kitchen, and the CATE Center, would remain under lockdown until further notice. School officials reassured everyone that all students and staff members were safe and that their well-being is the top priority.
