On Monday, Joe Biden, the United States President, and Jill Biden, US first lady, will visit Hawaii to monitor the disaster from wildfires that ruined most of the Maui resort town of Lahaina last week and almost 110 people lost their lives.
The White House said in a statement that Biden will get an immediate look at the destruction and meet with first responders, survivors, and federal, state, and local officials.
Josh Green, the Governor of Hawaii has alerted the death toll could increase.
Last Tuesday, the inferno extended quickly from grasslands outside town into Lahaina, seeing people in shock and burning a 5-square-mile area of town in hours. The official said that 2,200 buildings were destroyed by extended fire and caused an evaluated $5.5 billion in damage.
Deanne Criswell, the head of the US Federal Emergency Management Administration said the President approved the request of Hawaii on Wednesday that the federal government refund the full cost of 30 days of the emergency work predicted to be taken out over the next four months.
Criswell added in the briefing in the White House that till now the federal government has approved more than 1,300 registrations for aid and disbursed $2.3 million in aid to families.
