In a startling incident that has shocked the nation, an Indian couple from West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district sold their eight-month-old boy to buy the latest iPhone 14. The couple, identified as Jaydev Ghosh and Sathi, already had two children, including a seven-year-old daughter. Their bizarre decision to sell their infant was driven by their desire to own an expensive phone and film Instagram Reels.
According to reports from NDTV, Jaydev Ghosh and Sathi, who lived in the same district, aspired to own the latest Apple phone to enhance their social media presence. They believed that filming Instagram Reels on the new iPhone 14 would give them the opportunity to share their travels and experiences across the state in a visually appealing manner.
Tragically, the innocent baby boy became a victim of his parents’ materialistic aspirations. The authorities were alerted when the infant was rescued from a resident named Priyanka Ghosh, who had allegedly paid money to acquire the baby.
Both the baby’s mother, Sathi, and Priyanka Ghosh have been apprehended by the police. However, Jaydev Ghosh, the father, is currently on the run, evading authorities who are actively searching for him.
During the investigation, Sathi confessed to the heart-wrenching crime, admitting that she and her husband decided to sell their baby to fund their purchase of the iPhone 14. They believed that owning the latest gadget would enhance their social media presence and bring them popularity on Instagram.
Even more disturbingly, the authorities discovered that the father, Jaydev Ghosh, had attempted to sell their seven-year-old daughter as well. Fortunately, this horrifying plan did not come to fruition.
As the news of this shocking incident spread, neighbors and locals expressed their disbelief and condemnation of the couple’s actions. Laxmi Kundu, a neighbor, revealed to India Today that the couple had sold their baby boy for a sum of INR 200,000. With the money, they indulged in various trips, including a honeymoon at Digha Sea Beach, and even managed to buy a mobile phone.
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the darker side of social media culture, where individuals may prioritize material possessions and fame over the well-being and safety of their own children. The case serves as a stark reminder of the need to promote responsible and ethical use of social media and to prioritize the welfare of innocent lives above all else.
