On Saturday, Wang Yi, the Chinese Foreign Minister called the Philippines to work with the People’s Republic of China to defuse tensions, in an effective way, in the South China Sea, the official Xinhua news agency said.
Beijing’s comments come amid growing tension between the two nations over the area of a grounded warship that acts as a military outpost in the South China Sea.
Xinhua said the comments were made during a visit to Singapore and Malaysia.
China has constantly voiced its willingness to settle dissimilarities with the Philippines through bilateral talk, expecting that the Philippine side would abide by an agreement acquired in the past, Xinhua reported Wang as saying.
The Philippines purposely grounded the Sierra Madre, a World War II-era warship in 1999 as part of its power claim to the Second Thomas Shoal, which lies within its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and turns a handful of armies through the ship.
