A few hours after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) gave ease to Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, suspended the Toshakhana lawsuit judgment, and called that he be released on bail, a special court demanded that Khan stay in “judicial lockup” in link with the cypher case on August 29.
The order said that you are hereby directed to retain him in the judicial jail and bring him on 30.08.23 before this court.
The former PM has stayed in lockup since his detention and other sentencing on 5 August over accusations of illegally selling state gifts while in the office of PM. The judgment also directed that Khan be banned from competing in elections for five years by the election commission.
While judging in Khan’s favor, Aamer Farooq, the Chief Justice of IHC said that the copy of the judgment will be public shortly but all we are stating now is that (Imran Khan) request has been approved.
The legal team of Khan had a plea in the IHC, aiming for orders to control management from engaging in any other “illegal and unjustified detentions” of the leader of PTI in lawsuits filed against him after his conviction in the Toshakhana case.
The plea specifically refers to the cypher case which was provoked by Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on August 15. The FIA had recently asked Khan for over an hour in link with this suit, which invokes the Official Secrets Act, reported by the Dawn.
The plea also emphasizes that ex-PM would experience “irreparable harm” if he were to be charged for a new crime that he did not execute.
