On Saturday, the Australia foreign ministry said that the country will send a delegation of industry, government, academic, media, and arts representatives to China for a discussion with their Chinese counterparts next week to stabilize its ties with Beijing.
Penny Wong, the foreign minister of India said that Trade, investment, people-to-people connections as well as regional and global security are among the topics up for dialogue in next Thursday’s discussions.
The high-level dialogue had been scheduled annually from 2014 until it was halted in 2020.
Wong added in a statement that the discussions define another effort toward improving bilateral engagement and stabilizing our relationship with China.
Craig Emerson, the former trade minister will lead the Australian delegation, which also includes their former foreign affairs minister Julie Bishop.
Since it was established, the discussion has been a possibility to heighten mutual understanding with Chinese participants and to discover mutual ground, he added in a statement.
The Chinese delegation will be led by China’s former foreign affairs minister, Li Zhaoxing.
The dialogue’s continuation is the latest example of relations melting between China and Australia after years of tension.
China had been enraged by the Australian ruling against overseas influence operations, it’s preventing Huawei from 5G contracts, and its call for a separate probe into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But ties seem to have warmed since the center-left government in Canberra embraced a less confrontational approach to Beijing following its election last year.
