On Thursday, the biggest and busiest airport in Germany scrambled to book passengers on new flights after a tremendous storm forced dozens of flight cancellations and also triggered flooding that drown streets and overturned trees.
Late Wednesday, the massive storm swept over southwest Germany, abandoning big amounts of water and discharging over 25,000 bolts of lightning.
Airport had to shut off 90 flights while 23 more were rerouted to land at other airports, Frankfurt Airport said.
Some passengers spent the night and slept on camp beds at the airport hotel.
A spokesman told AFP that the condition will likely maintain again today. There are few passengers here who require to be booked onto new flights.
The storm also impacted other areas, with Gelsenkirchen, in the region of North Rhine-Westphalia, badly struck.
