Le Touquet-Paris-Plage Airport: French airport to add “Elizabeth II” after King Charles’ approval

Le Touquet-Paris-Plage International Airport, France’s airport is getting renamed after King Charles III approved a bid to add “Elizabeth II” at the start of the transport hub’s current name.

This is a praise of its position as “the most British of French resorts,” the town official of Le Touquet said.

The French airport made this request to Buckingham Palace six days after Queen Elizabeth II passed away last September – in the wish to pay homage to her “exceptional life”.

However, the date of the inauguration is yet to be revealed.

The French airport was built in the 1930s and after 20 years it had become a “strong link” between the UK and France in the 1950s.

Edward VIII, the uncle of the late Queen, used to travel over to enjoy horse riding and sand yachting, and sometime he would accompany his niece, Queen Elizabeth, according to the town hall.

While Le Touquet-Paris-Plage International Airport currently doesn’t offer planned flights to passengers – with the airport primarily utilized by private jets – officials expect to welcome traveler planes from across the Channel in the future.

Emmanuel Macron, the president of France has a vacation home in Le Touquet, which lies about an hour south of Calais.
