Dorin Recean, the Moldovan Prime Minister has claimed that Russia does not have sufficient resources to invade the country. He added that Moscow cannot accomplish this through military means, amid increasing anxieties over the breakaway Transnistria region.
Russia does not have enough resources for an escalation. It is also clear that Russia cannot invade Moldova by military means. The country has enough potential to cope with a possible escalation in Transnistria.”
Dorin Recean said.
The Transnistrian region, like us, desires peace and stability, he added, before blaming Russia for launching a hybrid war through propaganda, disinformation, and the publicity of certain pro-war narratives.
Recean indicated that the Russian authorities will not achieve this and highlighted that these waves are more an information war than a real state of matters, as reported by the Moldovan news portal NewsMaker.
Russia has warned on several occasions about the possibility of “provocations” by Ukraine against the Transnistrian region while stressing that any action that poses a threat to the separatist region will be considered by Moscow as an attack against the country.
Recean recently called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the separatist region, after which Moscow urged Chisinau to be very careful with this. He recalled that Moscow already has tense ties with Moldova. He added that this lack of a productive view does little to support Moldova.
The region of Transnistria has achieved prominence because of its relations with the Russian government and its important geostrategic position. The Ukrainian authorities have even condemned possible Russian attacks into western Ukraine from Transnistria, while the authorities of the separatist region have demanded that their independence be identified “peacefully”.
