Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia is expected to hold talks in person with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey soon, the Kremlin said on Friday, as Turkey tries to convince Russia to return to the Black Sea grain deal.
The agreement, brokered by the United Nations and Turkey in July 2022 to aid ease a global food situation, allowed grain shipments from the Black Sea ports of Ukraine.
However, Moscow left the agreement last month, complaining that an accompanying deal to ease Russia’s own grain and fertilizer exports was not being executed.
When Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman was asked about the Turkish President’s invitation to Russian Putin to visit Turkey to discuss the agreement and other critical issues, Peskov replied that there is an understanding that this discussion will take place soon.
We usually synchronize reports of such visits with our ally nations and we will notify soon when and where it will take place, he said.
Russia’s state RIA news agency reported earlier that Hakan Fidan, the foreign minister of Turkey would visit Russia, but it didn’t provide any details.
In a phone call on August 2, Putin told Erdogan that Russia was keen on the Black Sea grain agreement as soon as the West fulfilled its commitments about Russia’s grain exports.
